I think I identify with Edward Cole because I
think we walk through life thinking about ourselves, our problems, we are the
center of our lives , we are selfish people who don’t think about the problems
of other people until something like this happens us and it’s when we realize
the reality of what really is living someone else. It's like living in our own
little world and suddenly, one day something big happens us that changes our
lives and makes us react and realize what we are doing. Life always gives us
lessons to not spend much of it asleep and really enjoy. To think of someone
else besides us and find out that they really can make us happy is seeing
someone else happy and can even be part of that happiness is because we could
do for people, " give joy to another."
Edward Cole isn't someone who can show their
feelings easily, "the ability to love is not his strong point".
Edward Cole is sometimes a very crazy person,
he was always too busy making money and building an empire to think about what
could be its deepest needs. When Carter Chambers met taught him several things
and he began to open to talk about sensitive situations that he preferred not
to talk. Carter and Edward ended up being very good friends and I think
everyone learned a lot from each other about everything out of their monotonous
lives to really start enjoying the life they had. Edward did not live much
having traveled complying with the "bucket list" but before he died
left an indelible memory in Carter. So Edward Carter taught how important
family ties and truly feel loved by someone, and taught him to have faith and
even Edward learned to be more generous. On the other hand Edward Carter taught
him to appreciate what he had, he showed what he thought he wanted and realized
that what we had was what really made him happy.
At the end Edward said, "I was a rich,
unpleasant, selfish jerk, and this wise, nice man taught me to feel hope and
love." I think it summarize the entire movie, because the lives of both
changed for them to enjoy until his last moments.
