Who do the villagers
believe the headless horseman is? How did he lose his head?
The villagers believe
that the headless horseman is an Hessian soldier that lost his head when a
cannon ball hit his head during the revolutionary war.
What are two things
that Ichabod would do to make himself useful to the farmers? How does he help
the wives?
1) He helped to make hay.
2) He drove the cows from
pasture.
What are the two main
things that Katrina Van Tassel is known for? What different things does she wear that
demonstrate each of these?
1)
She was the beauty and smart daughter of the most successful
farmer in the town.
2)
She wore the ornaments of pure gold, which her great-
great grandmother.
What approach does Brom
Bones (Brom Van Brunt) want to take when he discovers Ichabod is interested in
Katrina? Why can’t he do that?
Brom
tried to turn Ichabod into ridicule in presence of Katrina.
What explanation is
given for why there are more ghost stories in a long-settled village?
Because the population of most countries came to this
town at the time that the people died and others had been displaced.
What
logical explanation is there for three of the things Ichabod sees or hears when
he is near the old, large tree?
1) When Ichabod came
to this tremendous tree, began to whistle. He gave the impression that it answered
his whistle, but it was just a breeze through the dry branches.
2) He thought too that saw something ghostly hanging in
the center of the tree: but it was only a scar trunk caused by lightning.
3) Then he heard a groan, but it was only two small
branches that are rubbed against each other as he passed.
What
does Ichabod see that makes him so terrified that he sends his horse into full flight?
Ichabod saw the headless horseman behind him and took
the horse´s ridges with violence.
What
makes it seem that Brom Bones knew something about what happened that night?
Some
people thing that Bones knew something about Ichabod because when the event was
mentioned he laughed.
