Summary

Nick Carraway (Old Sport) is a man who lives next to a big mansion owned by a mysterious man called Jay Gatsby. Across the lake lives a wealthy couple, Daisy and Yom. One day, Nick receives an invitation to a party at Gatsby's house. Nick realizes that despite there were a lot of people he was the only one who received an invitation. That night, Nick meets Gatsby. Nick and Gatsby get along very well and one afternoon Gatsby encounters with Daisy in Nicks house. Gatsby was in a deep love with Daisy because she was his girlfriend five years ago until Gatsby had to go to the war. And now that Gatsby has met her again, he want to recover the love that they had once.

Character Description

Gatsby: He is a mysterious guy who lives in a mansion next to Nick. He hides many secrets about his past. He was once poor, but after returning from the war he became a wealthy person. The origin of his fortune is unknown, but it is supposed to be illegal. He is in a deep love with Daisy.

Daisy: Daisy is the wife of Tom and a very good friend of Nick. She is a confused woman because she married with Tom, but in secret she loves Gatsby. She is a very conflicted character, because she has to make a big decisions between staying with her husband and her actual life or going with the love of her life Gatsby.

Nick: Nick is the central character of the story, because this story is told from his point of view. He is a very good friend with Daisy, Gatsby and Tom, so he had to carry on with all the uncomfortable situations that happens between them.

Personal Opinion

In my opinion, I really enjoyed this movie despite it is a live story. I liked it a lot because the movie had a good argument. I became identified with this move, because I have had similar situations. The only thing I disliked about the movie is that the songs played during the parties in Gatsby's house weren't from the time of the movie. You can see classic cars and people wearing clothes from an old fashion dancing new electronic songs. Despite of this, I liked a lot the movie every scene has coherence with the others. I didn't see the end of the movie, but I predict that Tom or Gatsby will die after a fight they had for Daisy.

Summary:

• The movie is about Nick, a man who is a war veteran, who is also depressed and alcoholic who tells the story about a man named Gatsby. Describing him as the most optimistic man he has ever known. Nick moves in 1992 to New York and rents a house near the house of Jay Gatsby, a man who is very mysterious and throws big parties. Nick is the cousin of Daisy. Jay Gatsby tries to get close to Daisy and knowing that Nick is her cousin, invites him to one of his parties. When they become friends, Jay Gatsby ask him for a favor, to invite his cousin to drink tea in his house, so that he finally can see her after five year away from Daisy, always loving her. Then, when they finally get together again, they begin a new romantic story, trying to be together.

3 Characters:

• Jay Gatsby is a man who is deeply in love with Daisy, all his life has a meaning because of the existence of Daisy. I think that the cause of his fortune and all his acts in life is that he only wants to be back in the days where Daisy and he could act like two teenagers in love. So he becomes a serious man, after all that he have been through.

• Daisy is the girl that is in love with Jay Gatsby, and she was forced to get married with someone who she didn't loved anymore. After being obliged to it, she realizes that all that she can do is smile and be more optimistic, and she needs to accept with a good face all the things that come around in her life.

• Tom Buchanan is Daisy's husband, he is a very extroverted man. When he finds out that Daisy has been cheating on him with Gatsby, he gets very furious and i think that that makes him feel very humiliated, but, he is a very selfish man because he also cheated on Daisy.

Personal opinion:

• I likes the movie a lot, beside the fact that we didn't finished the whole movie, i think that the art direction is really beautiful, and also, i liked the performances. I felt very attracted to the film, i admire James Joyce and i don't really know if the movie made it justice to the novel, but so far, i liked it.

Summary

The Great Gatsby follows the footsteps of Nick Carraway, a man who aspires to be a writer, as it leaves the central region of the U.S. and arrives in New York in the spring of 1922, a time of moral decay and pulsating jazz kings of bootlegging. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick ends up being a neighbor of Jay Gatsby, a millionaire mysterious continually gives parties. Across the bay live their cousin Daisy, and her philandering husband and aristocrat, Tom Buchanan. Thus Nick enters the captivating world of the super rich with their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness to that, both inside and outside the world he inhabits, write a story of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and big tragedies, and raises a mirror to our own time and current struggles.

The most important scene takes place in New York. Tom and Gatsby fight over who can be with Daisy. It is revealed that Gatsby is a bootlegger (this story takes place during the Prohibition era in the U.S.) and Daisy can not leave her husband. While the group leads to Long Island, Tom's mistress, Myrtle, is hit and killed by Gatsby's car, in which Gatsby and Daisy ride. Gatsby tells Daisy she was driving but he will take the blame. Meanwhile, Tom sentence Gatsby, George Wilson telling where to find the man who killed his wife, Myrtle. George Wilson shoots him to Gatsby before committing suicide.

Characters

Nick Carraway: grew up in a respectable family of Chicago and went to Yale, likes literature and is considered one of those "limited" specialists known as "good men" and works in finance in New York City. It is connected with wealthy and important, as their cousin Daisy and Tom, an acquaintance from college, but in reality he is not, in any way, one of them. Unlike the people around you, Nick Carraway is not drowning in money. Being away from these social circles, can have a better view of what happens to them. It also has a sharp eye and sometimes critical, and not afraid to use it.

Daysi Buchanan: The beautiful, mysterious, flirtatious, intriguing, delightful, exciting, sexy and famous voice "full of money" that has Daisy is one of the central images of the movie. People like Nick, Jordan and Gatsby, say the magic of this extraordinary instrument. Daisy's voice is full, not only of money but of promise. Something about her that tells the listener that there are beautiful attractions on the horizon. Daisy's voice is irresistibly seductive, and all other characters are drawn to her for that voice.

Tom Buchanan: is Daisy's husband, an extremely wealthy man, a brute and an athlete. It is selfish and does what he has to do to get what he wants. Above all, it seeks to take control of your life and control over others. Abusive. . It is neither attentive nor responsive to his wife, and this contrasts with Gatsby.

Personal opinion

The film is well done. The scenery is excellent, the characters are very good actors. The costumes and photography are the best. I do not like romance plot director. I have not read the book but all say the book is better. Production is what I liked most of the movie

SUMMARY OF GATSBY MOVIE

It begins when Nick Carraway talks to his psychiatrist about "Gatsby," his neighbor. Nick was intrigued by the life of Gatsby, wanted to find out who it was. Nick knows one of Gatsby's famous parties. Soon Nick knew that Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan. Daisy was Nick's cousin, and also the wife of Tom Buchanan. Tom had a mistress, Myrtle.

Nick found out that Gatsby and Daisy had been in love before, but Daisy married Tom while Gatsby was in Europe during the war. After this, Gatsby made ​​his fortune illegally. So he decided buy a mansion in Long Island to be near of Daisy. Gatsby's house was across the bay right in front of Daisy's house. From where, she could see a green light every night.

Nick decided to help to reunited Gatsby with Daisy and they began meeting in secret often. But Tom knew of his wife’s romance. Tom and Gatsby argue over who really loves Daisy. Daisy says she wanted both, but decided to return to her house with Gatsby.

Later, Daisy accidentally ran over Myrtle (Tom's mistress) while driving Gatsby's yellow car and escape without further. Myrtle's husband Gatsby blames the death of his wife. So he killed Gatsby and then he shouted himself. At the end, Daisy and Tom ran away together with their daughter. Nick was the only one that attended Gatsby's funeral along with several reporters.

ANALYZE 3 CHARACTERS

Jay Gatsby: He was a very mysterious young millionaire. He was one of the new rich of society. But before, he was a poor boy. He was always wanted something more ambitious and knew that wasn’t the life he deserved, he knew he was capable of great things. This shows his motivation, determination and passion which then we would look at the character that he created for himself, his new incarnation, Gatsby. He was completely in love with Daisy and tried to protect to the end.

Daisy Buchanan: She was Nick’ cousin, Tom's wife and the love of Gatsby's life. Gatsby's fortune and whole his life was built on the hope that someday he can revive his love with Daisy. Daisy is a different character is flirty, she liked to have fun. Daisy is a dreamer, an idealist, is presented as someone irresistible.

Tom Buchanan: He was Daisy’s husband. A rich man, but also he was a brute and an athlete. He was a football player. He came from an extremely rich family. He was very selfish and did what he had to do to get what he wanted. Above all, he looked for take control of his life and control over others. When Tom realized that Daisy loved Gatsby, he forced confrontation. He was very abusive. Although never hit Daisy but to his lover did. He wasn’t attentive or responsive to his wife, she actually said "brute" to him.

PERSONAL OPINION

I really liked the movie, it's different, not a typical love story and drama. It's like a re imagination of the 20s, with luxury, glitter and music. I liked the mystery that gives the characters, Gatsby and Daisy to the movie, their reunion. And the end isn’t like typical love late. They present the harsh reality of when someone becomes obsessed with a person and doesn’t care about anyone but her to end up dying almost by someone who didn’t attend either his funeral. Both main characters were somewhat indifferent to certain events. First Gatsby a little bit evader and at the end, Daisy determined to continue her life no matter she left behind.
